Computational geophysics entails rapid numerical computations that help analyses of geophysical data and observations. Structural Geophysics, Tectonics and Geodynamics form a coherent and interdependent group of sub-disciplines, the aim of which is the search for knowledge about how minerals, rocks and rock formations, and Earth systems i.e., crust, lithosphere, and asthenosphere deform and via which processes.

Track 4: Gravity and Magnetic Methods

Gravity and magnetic methods are extremely useful in both mineral and oil exploration. Gravity and magnetic geophysical methods are passive. They rely on no controlled sources but seek out naturally occurring variations in the earth’s gravity and magnetic fields. Gravity keeps us on the ground and the gravity readings on earth are not the same everywhere and the magnetic field itself is dipolar and usually non-vertical.

Track 5: Exploration Seismology

Exploration geophysics is an applied branch of geophysics, which uses physical methods (such as seismic, gravitational, magnetic, electrical and electromagnetic) at the surface of the Earth science to measure the physical properties of the subsurface, along with the anomalies in those properties. We seek papers on the advancement of geophysical modelling and interpretation methodology, instrumentation, processing, modeling and/or interpretation as applied to customary oil and gas, unconventional, geothermal, mineral, and water resources. Other areas of exploration as well as environmental studies related to exploration are also encouraged. Seismic, electromagnetic, gravity, magnetics, ground penetrating radar, in addition to more non-traditional geophysical methods and integrated techniques are of interest.

Track 6: Geophysical Signal Processing

Geophysical Signal Processing, is concerned with the construction, analysis, and interpretation of mathematical and statistical models. The three main signal processing techniques used to analyze seismic records taken in the exploration for petroleum and natural gas are (1) deconvolution, (2) stacking, and (3) migration. The use of these three methods results in a solution of the geophysical inverse scattering problem. A geophysical survey collects data in the form of reflection seismograms (also called seismic traces) which are received at the surface of the ground due to sources (such as explosions, vibrations, thumping) activated at the surface of the ground.

Track 9: Remote Sensing and GIS

Geographic information system (GIS) is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyse, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data. The acronym GIS is sometimes used for geographical information science or geospatial information studies to refer to the academic discipline or career of working with geographic information systems and is a large domain within the broader academic discipline of Geo informatics. Remote sensing is the process where the Remote sensors collect data by detecting the energy that is reflected from earth. These sensors can be on satellites or mounted on aircrafts. The electromagnetic radiation is normally used as an information carrier in remote sensing.

Track 10: Tectonics and Crustal Evolution

Tectonics (from the Late Latin tectonicus from the Greek τεκτονικÏŒς, "pertaining to building") is concerned with the processes which control the structure and properties of the Earth's crust, and its evolution through time. In particular, it describes the processes of mountain building, the growth and behavior of the strong, old cores of continents known as cratons, and the ways in which the relatively rigid plates that comprise the Earth's outer shell interact with each other and also which we can call it as cluster evolution. Tectonics also provides a framework to understand the earthquake and volcanic belts which directly affect much of the global population.
